The City to Surf for Activ is Activ’s major fundraising event. Now in its 39th year it has become the second largest officially timed race in the Southern Hemisphere with over 45,000 participants in 2012.
For 38 years the Perth City to Surf has been an icon of the Western Australian sporting calendar, capturing the hearts of tens of thousands of people. The state government and event stakeholders fully endorse this event and have been helping to promote its virtues as a charity fundraising event, as well as the biggest community sporting event in the state, for many years. Their ongoing support helps to foster an event that is the envy of all with respect to the goodwill it creates within the broader community of Perth and Western Australia.
The traditional 12km event has evolved over the years and the carnival now includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, 12km run/walk and the 4km run/walk/wheelchair.
The introduction of the Marathon course in 2009 brought an influx of elite professional athletes from around Australia and the world keen to pick up the substantial prize money on offer. The course, which runs past key Perth landmarks, has been dubbed 'the most beautiful marathon in the world'. The Perth City to Surf Marathon has been touted as the richest road race in Australia and the richest Marathon in the Southern Hemisphere with an $82,000 prize pool on offer.
The Perth City to Surf for Activ is truly a unique running carnival and one that will remain on the Perth sporting calendar for many generations to come.
