Asthma is a long-term disease which affects 10% of West Australians. It can be controlled with proper treatment however at present there is no cure.
Asthma is currently one of the top 8 national health priorities affecting 1 in 9 children and 1 in 10 adults. It affects more than 2 million Australians, is the most common form of chronic illness amongst children, is a leading cause of admission to hospital, and a leading cause for days away from school or work. The Asthma Foundation WA is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping people breathe better. The Foundation was founded in 1964 from the personal concern of a group of dedicated people brought together to consider how they will help people affected by asthma.
The Asthma Foundation WA has established itself as a leading community organisation that funds local research into asthma and provides education and support services for people with asthma, their families and carers.
