Event Train Service to Mandurah

Event organisers, in conjunction with the Public Transport Authority, are pleased to announce a special early morning train service will take 70km Full Hike participants to Mandurah.

Full Hike participants will now be able to catch a special event train from Esplanade Station and travel express to Mandurah. Capacity is limited so participants are asked to be at the station by 4.20am, to start boarding services at 4.25am.

Transperth were previously unable to provide this service because of significant operational limitations involving the type of carriage used on the Mandurah line and its capacity to hold bikes.

Public Transport Authority spokesman, David Hynes, said this was a one-off lifting of the restriction which would allow four six-car A-series trains to travel to Mandurah for the start of the Full Hike.

“In support of this popular event, the Public Transport Authority has lifted an operational restriction which stops its older A-series trains – in which the seating configuration enables large numbers of bicycles to be accommodated – travelling to Mandurah”, Mr Hynes said.

Race Director, Chris Letts, said public transport was vital in getting participants to and from the event.

“This decision has been widely welcomed by our participants and we are grateful that the Public Transport Authority has found a resolution”, he said.

Participants in the 30km Mid Hike and 10km Mini Hike are encouraged to drive to their nearest train station then catch one of the special event services back after the event.

The cost of public transport is included in all participants’ registration fee.
